Sleep Apnea Screening

DEFINITION

The sleep apnea syndrome is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts. If you snore loudly and feel tired even after a full night’s sleep, you may have sleep apnea.

Your thoughts are valuable. Whether it’s a simple question, a suggestion, a point, or an observation, please feel free to share your thoughts using the contact form provided.

TYPES OF SLEEP APNEA

  • Obstructive type, the most common form, occurs when the muscles of the cervix (neck) relax
  • Central-type: This occurs when your brain does not send signals properly to the muscles that control breathing
  • Complex sleep apnea syndrome occurs when a person has both obstructive and central sleep apnea

WHAT AM I DOING

If you think you might have sleep apnea, see your doctor. Treatment can reduce or even eliminate your symptoms and may help prevent heart problems and other complications.

At the clinics CarE MediC you can have your sleep monitored at home using a special portable device to investigate suspected sleep apnea.
