Body Composition & BMI

What is the Body Mass Index (BMI)?

Body composition assessment is the first step in evaluating body weight and overall health.
Body Mass Index (BMI) is used internationally as a simple and reliable tool for classifying body weight.

BMI is calculated based on height and weight and helps us determine whether a person is at a healthy weight, overweight, or obese.

Why is it important?

Measuring BMI and basic anthropometric parameters:

  • It provides an initial overview of the organization’s status
  • It helps identify an increased cardiometabolic risk
  • It serves as the basis for further specialized tests

Limitations

BMI is a useful tool, but it cannot distinguish between fat and muscle mass.

For this reason, in many cases a more detailed assessment of body composition, such as body fat measurement, is required.

At CarE MediC clinics

At the clinics At CarE MediC, body composition assessment is performed as part of a comprehensive evaluation, which may also include more specialized measurements, such as body composition analysis and resting energy expenditure (REE).
