WHAT IS IT?
Calcium is one of the electrolytes essential for life. The human body contains approximately 1,000–1,200 grams of calcium, most of which is found in the skeleton, but about 1% is found in the blood and tissues. At the clinics CarE MediC clinics, we assess calcium metabolism and the hormones involved in it, and then treat any disorders that affect it.
CALCIUM ABSORPTION IN THE BODY
We get it from certain foods, but it is also available as a dietary supplement and is found in some medications (such as antacids). Foods rich in calcium include milk, yogurt, and cheese, as well as certain vegetables such as soybeans, broccoli, almonds, chia seeds, tofu, sunflower seeds, as well as sardines and salmon.
