WHAT IS IT?
A neck ultrasound will reveal the size of the thyroid gland and whether or not there are nodules present. If the thyroid is enlarged, it is classified as a goiter. Nodular formations in the thyroid parenchyma may also be detected. Depending on the size of the nodules and their ultrasound characteristics, further evaluation via fine-needle aspiration (FNA)—which is a type of biopsy—may be necessary. The endocrinologist will evaluate the characteristics of the nodules and, based on that, recommend further investigation to rule out malignancy. At the clinics CarE MediC , thyroid ultrasounds are performed by certified endocrinologist Dr. Kleio Hantziara.
