Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease with an ever-increasing prevalence. Consuming carbohydrates raises blood glucose levels. The pancreas releases insulin, the hormone that helps transport glucose from the blood into cells as a source of energy. In diabetes, insulin is either not produced or its action is blocked. The excess glucose that remains in the blood can cause a variety of health problems. There are various types of diabetes, depending on the cause and environmental factors. The head of the department is the endocrinologist and diabetologist Dr. Kleio Hantziara.
