It is a skeletal disorder characterized by reduced bone strength, which puts affected individuals at risk for fractures. Osteoporosis can be diagnosed based either on \u201cspontaneous\u201d fractures, that is, fractures that occur without significant prior trauma, or by measuring bone density using the DXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) method.
